Cervantes (between Cartago and Turrialba) - A lovely 7.6-acre (3.1-hectare) farm located right on the main road to Turrialba (about 40 minutes east of San Jose). The farm has a small (roughly 900 ft2; 85 m2) wooden cabin (with open kitchen/dining/living area, loft bedroom and one full bath)...rustic but comfortable and in good condition. There are great views from the front porch, as well as from numerous other areas of the property. It's a wonderful little hobby farm, with just enough coffee to keep you busy (and help pay the expenses of the farm), with pasture land (for more crops, or for horses or cows), and a bit of forest.
It's right on the main road to Turrialba (with 100 meters of frontage), yet the cabin and other building areas are far enough back to not receive much traffic noise. There are two entrances off the main road, and a third entrance off a secondary (paved) road. There are internal roads throughout the property.
The layout of the land, along with the multiple access points, gives the property good development potential. In that area, the minimum lot size would be 1-1/4 acres (5,000 m2), but you could segregate off two or three nice lots and still have plenty of privacy at the cabin area. It has municipal water and electricity, and telephone service is available. At an elevation of about 4,200 feet (1,300 meters), the property enjoys a nice, mild climate.
It's a beautiful, peaceful area, mostly surrounded by farm land, with scenic views in every direction (to the Irazu Volcano, the Turrialba Volcano, the valleys, etc.). It's located about one mile from the cute little town of Cervantes, which takes its name from the author of Don Quixote/Man of La Mancha tale, with many of the restaurants and businesses there adopting that theme. It's about 40 minutes to San Jose, 20 minutes to Cartago, and about 25 minutes to Turrialba. There is also a back road that leads down into the Orosi Valley.
