Near the Orosi Valley
(EL Yas, Cartago) - Spectacular views, immaculate landscaping, lovely forest, privacy,
nice home, great climate…. This is a true paradise overlooking the Orosi Valley! Every
inch of the 8.6-acre (3.5-hectare) property was carefully planned out, with nearly every
tree and plant being selected and planted by the owner. There’s a nice, relatively flat
and open area around the house, with gorgeous landscaping then leading down to the peaceful
forest areas along the edges of the property. From the fish pond with trickling waterfalls,

“weeping” wall (a stone wall with water trickling down it).
From that area, you pass through a nice family/TV area, past another full bath, then through
reading area, finally reaching two other bedrooms, each with high ceilings. From that sitting
area, you may exit to the backyard on one side or out to another terrace (with sitting and hammock
areas) on the other side. On one side of that terrace is a nice laundry area. The house has one
phone line (and, therefore, dial-up Internet), Direct TV, hot water throughout, water from a
community system, and an alarm (although the owner never uses or needs it).
A walkway from the front of the house leads down to a wonderful covered shelter/”rancho” (with
electricity) that also enjoys the excellent view. A short distance from there is a quaint outhouse.
A trail then leads down into the forested areas along the edges of the property, with sitting areas
along the way, past lovely flowers, leading down to a nice spring, through a jungle-type area, etc.
It’s quite incredible how a property this size can have so many different environments. The property
has a nice gated entryway, with the driveway going through a forested area, first passing by a nice
worker’s house (better quality than most) and then down to the main house.
At an elevation of about 3,800 feet (1,160 meters), the property enjoys an excellent climate, with
the daytime temperatures probably averaging in the mid 70’s F…YEAR-ROUND!
The general surrounding area consists mostly of farms and weekend retreats. One of the neighbors is
a former Presidential candidate! The general Orosi Valley is a fantastic area that is rapidly growing
in touristic appeal and has numerous attractions, including the nearby Tapantí National Park (6,000+
acres of gorgeous virgin rainforest), world-class whitewater rafting and kayaking, two public thermal
baths (there are numerous hot springs around the valley) and a five-star hot spring spa/resort, Lake
Cachí and the Cachí Dam, several cultural landmarks (such as the oldest church still in operation as
well as the ruins of the very first church), quaint traditional towns, and the scenic beauty of a
valley that many guidebooks say is the prettiest in the country. Not far away are the Lankester
Botanical Gardens, the Irazú and Turrialba Volcanos, the Basilica in Cartago (home to the country's
patron saint and the destination of a yearly pilgrimmage that attracts over a million people). It's
